PUNISHER: WAR ZONE Director to Direct Film About Former WWE Wrestler Chris Benoit
Lexi Alexander will tackle the bizarre and horrifying story behind Chris Benoit in the biographical film Crossface. Slashfilm writes film itself will be based heavily on the book Ring of Hell: The Story of Chris Benoit and the Fall of the Pro Wrestling Industry by Matthew Randazzo V. Of course, many are familiar with the story of the WCW/WWE wrestler who was later found to have tortured and murdered his wife and 7-year-old son after all three were found dead in their home.
The book focuses mainly on Benoit's 22-year career in wrestling and how a man so well liked and known for loving his family could turn on a dime so quickly. Years later, it was shown that Benoit was likely suffering from CTE and that he had the mental functionality of an 88-year-old man with Alzheimers.
Don't expect WWE to be promoting this film, as they've censored Benoit from their wrestling history altogether, even going so far as to remove him from matches and story lines within their history and refusing to acknowledge his accolades within the brand.
Anyone interested in seeing this? As a wrestling fan who came into the sport before and after his era, it would be interesting to see how he was viewed before the murder. From what I hear it was almost impossible for those that knew him to believe that he would do such a thing.
