Release Dates for STEVE JOBS, CREED, and POINT BREAK
Here's a quick release date shuffle to keep you up to date. The Rocky spin-off Creed, directed by Fruitvale Station's Ryan Coogler and starring Fantastic Four's Michael B. Jordan alongside Sylvester Stallone, will hit theaters on November 25th this year, which is the day after Thanksgiving. This isn't some lame addition to the Rocky franchise envisioned by Stallone, either - the idea was conceived by Coogler as a way to allow him to work with Jordan again, and they reached out to Sly with the idea of him reprising his role. With this franchise given new life, I'm excited to see where this goes - and I'm especially excited to see Jordan take on the role of a young boxer related to Apollo Creed.
Meanwhile, the Point Break remake (which I still think is completely unnecessary, considering how Kathryn Bigelow's 1991 original remains an action movie masterpiece) has moved into Mission: Impossible 5's previous release date of Christmas Day. That's almost a five month delay from its original July 31st release date. Should fans be worried about this? I don't think so - both the summer period and the Christmas movie season are places where studios place films they're confident in, and if it was a disaster, they could easily have moved it to January of next year if they wanted to. Either way, though, this movie is going to be completely decimated by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which opens only a few days earlier.
And finally, Universal's Steve Jobs will open on October 9th, 2015, just in time for the next awards season. Michael Fassbender plays the title role while Seth Rogen plays Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. Danny Boyle is directing Aaron Sorkin's screenplay, which is divided into three long scenes - each taking place around the product launch of a different Apple device.
