Report: 7 Minute Prologue of Christopher Nolan's DUNKIRK Will Debut Before Some ROGUE ONE 70mm IMAX Screenings

Here's some cool news for the I-would-imagine-to-be-rather-large cross section of cinephiles who are interested in both Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Christopher Nolan's upcoming movie Dunkirk.

/Film reports that a seven minute prologue of Dunkirk will screen in front of select 70mm IMAX screenings of Rogue One. Even though Gareth Edwards didn't shoot any of Rogue One in IMAX's native 70mm format, the new Star Wars film is still being shown in that format in 15 theaters around the world, and those are the screenings in which fans will reportedly be able to see the Dunkirk prologue. The site isn't sure whether the prologue will be extended to IMAX's digital screenings (which is how a majority of you will probably watch the film) or whether the studio is going to be keeping it relatively limited, so we'll have to wait and see how it turns out.

I'm a little surprised about this because I'd have thought Disney would save that kind of prime time slot for a preview of one of the studio's own upcoming films, but it sounds like they may have worked something out with Warner Bros to make this prologue event happen. This will be a cool bonus for Rogue One fans looking forward to seeing more huge war movie action on the big screen, especially since Nolan specifically filmed a good portion of his new movie using IMAX cameras.

Immediately before writing this, I was out getting some groceries and saw Nolan walking down the street in front of my local grocery store. If I'd known about this report before I went, I could have walked up to him and asked him about it directly!

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on December 16, 2016, while Dunkirk arrives on July 21, 2017.
