Richard Kelly Is Planning a Big and Ambitious DONNIE DARKO Sequel
Richard Kelly is an interesting filmmaker, who has made some fascinating films in his career. His best work is still Donnie Darko, which was a mind-bending sci-fi story that blew my mind when I first saw it. I love this movie, and it looks like Kelly is planning to return to that world for a new sequel that he's developing. Don't worry about that S. Darko piece of crap film, that doesn't count.
While talking to HMV, Kelly says he's looking at doing a new film in that universe that is "much bigger" and "more ambitious." He explains:
“It’s big and expensive and I think there’s time to get to that. I want to make sure we’ve got the budget to do it justice and not to compromise anything. Another story in this world needs resources and we need to have that in place. I need to get my next film out of the gate and then we can go back and look at it.”
It's great to hear that he's got big plans brewing for this return to the world of Donnie Darko. I'm excited to see what he ends up doing with it. I'm also curious to see what this other film project he's working on is. There are no details, but the fact that he's returning to the Darko universe is pretty cool.
