Ridley Scott Considering Remake of Hit Korean Horror THE WAILING

Ridley Scott is currently in talks with Korean studio FIP to direct a remake of the successful Korean horror The Wailing. While Scott feels he can make it happen, head of FIP Korea Hosung Kim thinks it's a long shot that the film could find success outside of its home country...

"The locality and sensibility of The Wailing is so strong that I don’t think it would be easy to do a Western remake, and it will be important who directs it. So I told him I think the only director who could do the remake is Na Hong Jin. But we are still in early stages of talks..."

Na Hong Jin is director of the original film, and while Scott could direct it himself, he could easily executive produce and pass the project onto Jin. While I agree that the film may translate poorly to a new setting, I'm not sure how taking a native Korean and having them adapt the film to a non-Korean setting is a better idea than just letting a Westerner handle it? It could be possible the film is still being based in Korea seeing as it's just in discussions right now, so who really knows?

I have yet to see the film, but I was a big fan of the trailer back when I first saw it. If you haven't seen it yourself, check it out below...
