Rob Liefeld Releases His YOUNGBLOOD Film Script Online

I was a big fan of Rob Liefeld's Youngblood comic when it was published by Image in 1992. I still have the comics and the action figures! As a way to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Youngblood, Liefeld released a script that he wrote for a film that unfortunately never happened.

I've always wanted to see Youngblood get a film adaptation and even included it in an article I wrote listing ten non-Marvel or DC comics that need the big screen treatment. At one point Brett Ratner was developing a Youngblood movie, and thankfully it didn't go anywhere.

Now the rights are back with Liefeld and he wants to share what could have been. Liefeld also recently announced that he would be teaming up with artist Jim Towe to develop a reboot of the comic series. This is what he had this to say about the script on his site his website

"As we approach the 25th anniversary of the launch of Youngblood and Image Comics I am sharing unknown items and relics from its past. I loaded up my Youngblood screenplay available for download on my website. It's not being shopped around, it's for the fans and in all honesty it's how I would launch the book if I had a do-over. Link to my website in my bio."

Liefeld also says on his site:

"A short while back I penned this Youngblood screenplay, it was a story that I wanted to tell, it was a tale I’d been sitting on for years. This is my vision of what a Youngblood movie would look and how it would feel like. I know that fans who have loved Youngblood through the ages are certain to be thrilled by some if not many of the beats throughout this script. This has not been exposed at the studio level and that is certainly not the purpose here. This is for YOU! It costs me nothing to give this to you as a free pdf, something created and written for the most extreme Youngblood die-hards 😜 !!!
"So as we mount a new direction for Youngblood at the hands of a new age of talented comic book creators, I figured I’d share this with all of you wonderful fans who put Youngblood at the top of the charts those many years ago and have clamored for it ever since. It is very likely I’ll adapt this script as a graphic novel in the very near future, wether providing the art myself or with a fresh new illustrator that can crash the pages with the same raucous energy and style as my partners and I did when we gathered together to launch our little Image comics line in the summer of 1992!"

You have to sign-up for Rob Liefeld's newsletter to receive a download link for the script. Once you sign up and confirm, you get the script right away. I still haven't had a chance to read it yet, but I plan on it.
