Scott Derrickson Really Hopes the Fantastic Four Find a Place in the MCU
For those of you hoping that the Fantastic Four one day find solid footing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you can take solace in the fact that there are people in power, like Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson, who feel the same way! He spoke with ScreenRant about the franchise he would most like to see in the MCU, and in the midst of a Moon Knight response switched gears and gave us this...
“Actually, scratch that answer. Here’s my answer. My answer is this: I still have hope that Fantastic Four can be properly brought into the MCU because a lot of Doctor Strange – that’s the comment I read the most during that. I love those characters and I think that they still deserve another shot at finding a true home in the MCU. I still have hope for that. That’s my honest answer.”
With the three bombs the franchise has already had under Fox, perhaps one day the news that Marvel has once again secured the franchise rights would give audiences hope that this film can finally be done right! I honestly don't think anyone will feel that way until Fox gives up the rights, and even then it may take quite a bit of convincing by Marvel.
Personally, I just don't think there's too much room for the team in the current lineup. You have The Avengers for big stuff and street level heroes like Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones...and really no home for them to call their own. As much as I liked The Thing as a kid, I think they're a set of heroes that were phased out of usefulness in the wake of more exciting and useful heroes. I could be dead wrong on that, but it's just how I feel. Anyone else feel that way?
