SCREAM TV Series Won't Feature Ghostface?!
Over the last couple of years, MTV has been slowly developing a small screen adaptation of Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson's classic horror film franchise Scream. The last news we reported on the series included plot and character information that you can check out here. Now there's some interesting and off-putting news that has surfaced though. It comes from an interview at GhostFace.co.uk with RJ Torbert of Fun World, who is the person that holds the rights to the Ghostface look. According to him, Ghostface is not involved with the Scream TV Series.
"Please note, that I had been in communication with TWC regarding this and they have informed me, that as of now, and during the initial launch that GHOST FACE® is not involved in the new format. They also indicated that because of this direction, it does not mean, that Ghost Face® will not be involved at a later date. So, there is still a question, to the question. However, as of now, there is no involvement."
I just can't imagine Scream being Scream without Ghostface. It just seems like that's a terrible idea. Tolbert then offers some clarification in regards to the rights saying:
We believe SCREAM is GHOST FACE, and GHOST FACE® is Scream. However, while GHOST FACE® is owned by Fun World, The Scream Motion Picture Franchise is owned by The Weinstein Company and it is their option to Film a movie or T.V. SHOW without GHOST FACE®.
Regardless, we wish them the best of luck and I’m sure SCREAM FANS will check out the series. Who knows what will happen in the future regarding the series and Ghost Face®. Never say Never.
So it's not like Fun World is keeping Ghostface away from them. Maybe one day he could appear, but as of right now it sounds like there are no plans.
The series is said to center on a YouTube viral video gone wrong, "which leads to adverse repercussions for teenager Audrey Jesen and will also serve as the catalyst for a murder and opens up a window to the town’s troubled past."
I haven't watching anything on MTV since the 90s, I thought I might tune in to watch this, but maybe not if it's not really going to be a Scream series.
