SHERLOCK Actor May Have Joined STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE

No, Benedict Cumberbatch or Martin Freeman haven't joined Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One...well, not yet, anyway. The Sherlock actor I'm referring to in the title is Jonathan Aris, who plays Anderson on the acclaimed BBC series. (For those familiar with the show, Anderson is the one who founded the Sherlock fan club and believed the famous detective faked his own death at the end of the third season.)

In a now-deleted post on his Spotlight page, Aris listed a role in Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One as part of his upcoming filmography. The BBC originally pointed it out, and /Film has the image of what the entry looked like before it was deleted, which reveals his character's name:

That this was taken down so quickly probably means someone at Disney and Lucasfilm wasn't too happy about the leak, and it also lends credibility to the story (why would the studio care if it was incorrect?). As of now, we don't know who the character of Senator Jebel is. In fact, aside from the basic premise — rebel fighters steal the plans of the Death Star before the events of A New Hope — we really don't know too much at all about the plot of the film, but if this piece of casting news is true (and again, all signs point to it being true), then Aris joins Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendolsohn, Riz Ahmed, and Forest Whittaker in director Gareth Edwards' movie, which is set to hit theaters on December 16th, 2016. You can bet we'll have more information on this as soon as it becomes available.
