Sony Developing Horror Film Based on the Mystery of Elisa Lam
Sony Pictures is set to develop a new horror film project called The Bringing. The story is based on true events, and it "follows a private investigator who is hired to investigate a mysterious murder at a downtown Los Angeles hotel, uncovering its dark supernatural history. The style of the film is described as in the same vein as The Shining and The Conjuring."
The spec is based on the story of Elisa Lam, "the woman found dead in a water tank at the Cecil Hotel. Her strange behavior was captured in elevator cameras ahead of her death." You can watch that video below if you want. For more information on her and the history of the hotel click here.
The studio picked up the spec script from Brandon and Phillip Murphy. Apparently there were a lot of studios and producers interested in the project. Sony acquired the rights to it for $300,000 against $700,000.
