Sony Is Developing a Black Cat and Silver Sable Movie With THOR Screenwriter Chris Yost
Sony Pictures' Spider-Man franchise is growing. On top of the Spider-Man films they are developing with Marvel, they are also working on a Venom movie, and now it's been announced that they are in the process of developing a film that focuses on Black Cat and Silver Sable.
The studio has already hired a writer to work on a new version of the script. That writer is Chris Yost, who has a long history with Marvel and most recently co-wrote Thor: Ragnarok for the studio. The first version of the script was written by Westworld's Lisa Joy.
According to THR, the studio is hoping to start the process of finding a director soon as they are looking to start production in the fall. Like Venom, there's no mention of Marvel being involved with the creative process of the film. These other Spider-Man universe films are also not spinoffs of the upcoming Spider-Man solo film, these are standalone projects.
Hopefully, Sony has learned a thing or two from Marvel Studios when working with them on Spider-Man: Homecoming so that they actually give fans decent films based on these additional Spider-Man characters.
If you're not familiar with these female characters, Silver Sable is the leader of a band of mercenaries known as the Wild Pack. Black Cat, a.k.a. Felica Hardy, was previously played by Felicity Jones in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. She's a former cat burglar, who became a crimefighter when she became romantically involved with Spider-Man. Felicia has the ability to instill "bad luck" around others, which comes in handy when she's fighting crime. Jones is not expected to reprise her role.
I'm curious to see how these new Marvel films that Sony is currently developing turn out. These are two great female characters, and I hope they deliver a great movie.
