STAR WARS: BATTLEFRONT Hands On Impressions - E3 2015

There are a lot of games at E3 that I've been excited about seeing and playing, but I came to the event with one main goal, and that was to play EA Games' Star Wars: Battlefront! I had that opportunity yesterday, and it was truly a gloriously awesome experience.

One of my favorite sequences in the entire Star Wars saga is the Battle of Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back. That first battle sequence in the film is simply stunning, and I actually got to be a part of it in the gameplay demo that I got to play! I felt like I was part of a scene from the story that didn't make the final cut of the film.

I know we've been able to play through this battle in other video games, but nothing comes even close to what you will experience in the game. I imagine the whole game will be like that. This is the definitive Star Wars game, and fans of the sci-fi fantasy franchise are going to shit themselves silly when they play it!

I played a 40-person multiplayer mission called "Walker Assault," and I was on the side of the Empire. My goal was to help my teammates accompany the AT-AT walkers as they march towards the Rebel base to destroy it. The Rebels' mission was to stop us by trying to keep hold of a series of satellite uplink stations that would keep the Rebel base safe.

As a Snowtrooper, I was running through the snowy landscape jumping in and out of trenches and up and down hills killing rebel scum with my blaster. That's not all, though! I also got to fly around in a TIE Fighter and drive an AT-AT while taking down our enemies. It was extremely hectic, but incredibly fun.

The game feeds the nostalgia of the the fans. As much as I enjoyed playing it, there was nothing really innovative about the game. The gameplay was like every other battlefield game they've made, except it's Star Wars! DICE was focused on giving fans a Star Wars gaming experience that they've never had before, and they completely succeed in that. Especially with how the developers dug through Lucasfilm's archives to photograph and map the actual models, props, and weapons from the original trilogy.

I've imagined being a part of this battle since I was a little kid, and I got such an emotional rush being able to play a role in it, especially with its precisely realized environment. I was just so engulfed in the Star Wars universe that everything else, like the gameplay, didn't matter to me.

This demo is just one small part of a much more epic gaming experience. There's going to be so much more to do and explore, and I can't wait to play through it all. It's set to be released on November 17th, 2015.

In Star Wars™ Battlefront™ you can battle in epic 40 multiplayer battles reminiscent of The Battle of Hoth. As the Empire, you must accompany AT-AT walkers as they march towards the Rebel base to destroy it. And as a Rebel, you must do everything you can to stop them.
