Sylvester Stallone Won't Be a Part of That New RAMBO TV Show, So It Probably Won't Happen

Despite early reports that Sylvester Stallone was attached to executive produce and possibly reprise his role as John Rambo in a new TV show called Rambo: New Blood for Fox, Deadline now reports that Stallone will have no involvement whatsoever with the show.

“Contrary to reports, Sylvester Stallone has opted not to participate in the planned Rambo television series in any way at all,” a spokesperson for Stallone said. Added Stallone, “I wish the others well with the project.”

The show was meant to explore the complex relationship between Stallone's Rambo and his ex-Navy SEAL son, but now that the star is no longer involved, Deadline says it's "unlikely" that the project will move forward at Fox. That's probably for the best — without Stallone, there's absolutely no reason to go through with this show. Hell, I'd argue that even with Stallone on board, there's no reason to go through with it if it was going to be on a network like Fox. The only way to truly do that character justice is to not sanitize his world, and that would mean putting him on a channel that would allow for intense violence.

I mean, have you all seen 2008's Rambo? It's one of the most violent mainstream movies I can remember. To jump from that to the kind of world you'd need to satisfy a major network like Fox just doesn't seem like a smart move, so hopefully the producers of this show will either let it die completely, or rewrite the whole thing, get Stallone on board, and then pitch it to a cable network.
