TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 2 Adds Tyler Perry

I was shocked to discover that Tyler Perry was one of the best parts about David Fincher's Gone Girl last year. Now there's a chance he could end up being one of the best parts of a superhero movie sequel. Variety reports that Perry has joined the cast of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 as Baxter Stockman, the scientist who — in the comics and animated series — created the Mousers, small robotic creatures used to rob banks and destroy sewer rats. (You may remember fighting them in the TMNT arcade game, too.)

While the most recent live-action TMNT movie wasn't great, I imagine it worked really well for younger audiences, and that's probably what the filmmakers were going for. The older crowd will always have the 1990s films to revisit, and this new movie is better than it could have been. (How's that for faint praise?) If they embrace the more ridiculous aspects of the franchise — such as turning Tyler Perry's Baxter Stockman into a Goldblum-style half man half fly creature and bringing Krang into the equation — these movies will at least be making some fascinating choices, even if they don't result in something longtime fans would actually consider "good."

The TMNT sequel, which is being directed by Earth To Echo helmer David Green, will apparently feature Bebop and Rocksteady, and will see Megan Fox and Will Arnett reprising their roles. Stephen Amell will play Casey Jones, while supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio will play Arnett's girlfriend. The movie arrives next summer on June 3rd, 2016.
