THE BOSS BABY Trailer: Yep, Alec Baldwin Voices a Mysterious Baby
Alec Baldwin has been making headlines with his impression of Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live, but it's been a long time since he's headlined a mainstream movie all by himself. He's spent the past fifteen years or so transitioning from leading man to character actor, and now it looks like he's jumping back into animation for The Boss Baby, a new movie from DreamWorks Animation that I'm honestly having trouble believing is real.
The premise is simple: a young boy has a great family life, but it's upended when a baby (Baldwin) arrives. You've seen that premise a bunch of times before, and it's almost exactly the same setup as The Secret Life of Pets. Might as well call this one The Secret Life of Babies, because it's soon revealed that this kid isn't who he claims to be.
I'm sure Seth McFarlane will raise an eyebrow when he sees this, because it sure looks like this movie is essentially ripping off Stewie from Family Guy. Sure, Stewie wasn't the first talking baby that was wiser than his age (I'm instantly reminded of Baby Herman from Who Framed Roger Rabbit), but Stewie has become such a cultural touchstone over the past decade-plus that anything remotely resembling that is instantly going to call him to mind. We'll see if The Boss Baby (I can't believe that's the real title) will be able to overcome the comparison when it arrives in theaters on March 31, 2017.
