THE DARK TOWER Footage Recently Screened Had a Connection to THE SHINING

Earlier this week, Warner Bros. screened the first trailer for the highly anticipated film The Dark Tower at CinemaCon, and it definitely got me even more pumped up for the movie. We posted a reaction video talking about what we saw, and there was something I thought I saw in the footage from the film, but it happened so fast I wasn't sure if I saw what I thought I saw.

Then I started talking to other people, who confirmed that what I saw was actually there, and it made me happy to learn that I wasn't just seeing things. There is a little Easter egg in the footage that connected The Dark Tower to Stephen King's The Shining.

In the trailer for the film, we see the young character Jake talking to a psychiatrist. We see a few shots from the office as they are talking and one of those shots include a framed photo of The Overlook Hotel from Stanley Kubrick's film adaptation of The Shining. If you're a fan of King's work then this little thing is definitely a geek out moment. I'm sure you'll get to see it when the trailer is eventually released. I can't wait to see what other Stephen King universe Easter eggs that they throw into the movie.

I know that The Dark Tower series contains nods to many of King's other stories, and it's pretty cool to see that they are going to include some of those nods in The Dark Tower movie.

The Dark Tower series tells the story of Roland Deschain, Mid-World’s last gunslinger, who is traveling southeast across Mid-World’s post-apocalyptic landscape, searching for the powerful but elusive magical edifice known as The Dark Tower. Located in the fey region of End-World, amid a sea of singing red roses, the Dark Tower is the nexus point of the time-space continuum.  It is the heart of all worlds, but it is also under threat. Someone, or something, is using the evil technology of the Great Old Ones to destroy it.

The film is being directed by Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair) and has a supporting cast that includes Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road) as Tirana; Fran Kranz (The Cabin in the Woods) as Pimli, the right hand man of Randall Flagg; and Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen), Katheryn Winnick (Vikings), and Claudia Kiim (Avengers: Age of Ultron).

The Dark Tower hits theaters this summer on July 28. To catch up on all of our Dark Tower news, click here.
