The Evolution of DAREDEVIL's Suit Explained for Marvel's Series

Marvel's Daredevil series will start out with Matt Murdock going out and fighting crime in his original all-black costume. But it will eventually evolve into the outfit we all know and love. In a recent interview with Comics Continuum, showrunner Steven DeKnight explains the subtle evolution that the costume will go through in the highly anticipated Netflix series.

"He always wore a black mask that was tied in the back. We went through a lot of different versions and did a lot of R&D before settling on something. If you watch very closely, you'll see the outfit evolve subtly into what we call the black ninja suit. The mask changes. He starts wearing protective pads. Eventually it morphs into the classic suit, because he wouldn't be Daredevil without it. Getting there is part of the fun. The idea was to back the story up to the point before Matt is Daredevil. Then we could take him to a place where some version of the red suit works in a grounded world. The solution is very exciting and makes complete sense."

I saw several complaints from fans wondering why the series wasn't going to feature the iconic red costume. But since we've seen some footage from the series, those complaints have seemed to die down and fans are a little more understanding of why the show is starting off with the black ninja-style suit.

It makes sense that they are going this route. The good news is, he'll eventually evolve into the full-on kick-ass superhero sporting the red horns on his head. I'm excited to see what that's going to look like in this show.

All 13 episodes of Daredevil will be available to watch on Netflix beginning Friday, April 10th.
