The Fate of Will Smith's INDEPENDENCE DAY Character Revealed
It's no secret that Will Smith is not reprising his role of Steven Hiller in Independence Day: Resurgence. Director Roland Emmerich tried to get him back, but Smith turned him down, and the sequel was made without him. The first trailer was released over the weekend, and it was surprisingly pretty awesome! It's a shame Smith didn't come back.
Well, thanks to a viral website that has been launched, we have some details on the history of the Earth in the wake of the alien battle from the first film. It reveals that Hiller was killed while test piloting an alien hybrid fighter jet. The news is dated April 27th, 2007, and the slide reads as follows:
“While test piloting the ESD’s first alien hybrid fighter, an unknown malfunction causes the untimely death of Col. Hiller. Hiller’s valor in the War of 96 made him a beloved global icon whose selfless assault against the alien mothership lead directly to the enemy’s defeat. He is survived by his wife Jasmine and son Dylan.”
It was previously announced that Vivica Fox will reprise her role of Jasmine Hiller, and Jessie Usher is taking on the role of her son, Dylan. The movie also stars Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Maika Monroe, and Sela Ward.
We always knew they were coming back. After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
The film will be released in theaters on June 24th, 2016. Why would Smith agree to do Men In Black III and not do this one!?
