"The Future Begins" for THE FLASH
The CW released a new trailer for The Flash, their newest Superhero show, and it looks fantastic. Okay, let’s be real. I’ve seen the pilot, and it is fantastic. Without giving too much away, the first episode lays out Barry Allen’s backstory, the origin of his powers, the origin of a large and varied pool of villains of the week, a (probably) season-long mystery, and a (I’m guessing) series-long mystery. That seems like a lot, but several of those things come out of the same event, so it doesn’t feel rushed or disjointed. That’s a feat.
Maybe that shouldn’t be surprising, given that The Flash comes from the same creative team as Arrow, but it is interesting that Arrow and The Flash are very different shows. They are grounded in the same universe, but Barry Allen has a sunniness that Oliver Queen lacks, and that transfers to the show as a whole.
Watch the trailer. It has some great moments from throughout the episode, but it doesn’t come close to giving the whole thing away. When you’re done with that, watch the premiere on Tuesday, October 7.
Grant Gustin plays Barry Allen, "who suffers a freak accident that turns him into a superhero with the power of incredible speed." Candice Patton, Jesse L. Martin, Tom Cavanaugh, Carlos Valdes, and Danielle Panabaker also star.
