THE LOST BOYS Was Originally Supposed To Have an End Credits Scene

End credits scenes weren't really a big thing back in the 80s. The live-action adaptation of Masters of the Universe had one, Ferris Bueller's Day Off had One, and apparently, The Lost Boys almost had one too! According to the new book called Lost in the Shadows: The Story of The Lost Boys by Paul Davis, the original script from the film had a different ending that was cut and never filmed.

The ending of the film that we all know features Grandpa plowing through his house in his truck killing the head vampire, Max, with a giant spiked fence post that flew off the back of the truck at him. In case you forgot how that scene played out, you can watch it below. The film closed out with Grandpa saying, “One thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach… all the damn vampires”, which was kind of a perfect ending.

Well, after all that happened and the credits rolled, the audience would have been taken back to the vampire lair for one last little tease of Max's first encounter with his "boys". Here's a description from the script on how the scene would have played out.

INT. LOBBY/CAVE – NIGHT
Deserted, the CAMERA PROWLS through the Rock ‘n’ Roll ruins.
Eventually the CAMERA pushes toward the old mural painted on the lobby wall. The mural depicts a typical day on the boardwalk in the year 1900.
CAMERA MOVES CLOVER AND CLOSER TO THE MURAL
And HOLD TIGHT on one painting figure in particular. A man in a straw hat. He’s grinning broadly…and he’s most definitely Max. He’s talking to a group of young men.

That actually would've been kinda cool to see. I don't think it would have taken away from the ending of the film. I always thought it would've been fun to see a Lost Boys prequel that focused on the head vampire Max recruiting David and the rest of his boys. There's an interesting story there to tell.

It's kind of a shame that the scene was never shot. Regardless, if you're a fan of The Lost Boys, this is a book that seems like it's worth owning! It's currently sold out, but you can find more information about Lost in the Shadows: The Story of The Lost Boys on Twitter or the official site.
