The Original GHOSTBUSTERS Will Beat The New Movie Into Theaters This Summer

Movie Ghostbusters by Ben Pearson

I'm still very curious to see Paul Feig's new Ghostbusters movie, despite the controversy and the — let's be honest — disappointing first trailer. And while some people are getting all hot and bothered over the new remake, they need to remember that it will never replace the original movie. In fact, Sony wants to make sure everyone remembers this, because they're actually re-releasing the original 1984 film back into theaters this summer before the new film comes out.

Fathom Events will play the first film at 2pm and 7pm on June 8th, the 32nd anniversary of the opening day of Ivan Reitman's movie, in 750 theaters across the United States. And if your calendar is already full on that day (look at you, already busy over a month away!), there's good news — you'll have another chance to see it on the big screen, since the company is also screening it at those same times on June 12th. Plus, there will be a sneak peek at Feig's new film, so you'll get a little of both worlds.

And as /Film points out, if you're in Brooklyn, NY during that week, you should stop by BBQ Films instead, because they're having a much more in-depth Ghostbusters viewing experience. Exclusive costumes and props from the new movie will be on display, and for certain price tiers, you'll get things like "hands-on training with ghostbustin' gear," a limited edition poster, two free "adult eco-beverages," and more, so check out details here.

Feig's new Ghostbusters hits theaters on July 15th.
