THE RAID Director Gareth Evans to Helm a Period Thriller Called APOSTLE
The Raid films that were directed by Gareth Evans are two of the best and craziest martial arts action films that I've ever seen. Evans is a hell of a talented director and I've been looking forward to seeing his career expand beyond The Raid franchise.
Evans is now set to write and direct a period thriller called Apostle. According to Variety, the story follows "a man who travels to a remote island and attempts to rescue his sister after she’s kidnapped by a religious cult. The group demands a ransom for the sister’s return, undermining the man’s resolve to rescue her."
There's no doubt that the man is going to go ballistic on this religious cult and kick some major ass to get his sister back. What I'm curious about is the religious cult that he's rescuing her from. I can't help but think that it's going to be severely dangerous.
This isn't the first film Evans has made with a religious cult in it. He directed a segment in V/H/S/2 called Safe Haven that played out as an insane supernatural horror thriller. It makes me wonder if maybe Apostle was inspired by that.
Evans is looking to start production on the film in March of 2017. I'm looking forward to seeing how this new project from him turns out.
