The Scarecrow Will Be Introduced into GOTHAM Series
Gotham has done a great job with introducing familiar characters. So far they've introduced us to Carmine Falcone, Salvatore Maroni, and the characters who will become Penguin, Catwoman, and the Riddler. Harvey Dent and Victor Zsasz have also been cast and will be introduced this season. They aren't finished yet, though! It was previously revealed that they will introduce Mr. Freeze at some point. They've also teased the Joker on various occasions. Now it looks like they will bring in one of Batman's more frightening villains with the Scarecrow.
The news comes from executive producer Danny Cannon, who was in attendance at Stan Lee's Comikaze this last weekend. He says that the writers are in the midst of working on an episode that will introduce a young version of Scarecrow, and he also offers up a bit of interesting info:
"We're breaking the story now, the villain will be seen as a child, before he takes on the Scarecrow moniker. In fact, it's something that will be passed on to him from his father, which will create an eventual enemy for Batman while still having an adversary for Jim Gordon."
In a way, Gotham is reinventing the mythology of these villainous characters so it makes sense that this new version of Scarecrow won't be the one we've come to know over the years. It sounds like his dad may be going up against Detective Jim Gordon though. This will be the second live action portrayal of the Scarecrow. The first was envisioned by Christopher Nolan in the Dark Knight trilogy.
I've always liked this character. He was especially one of my favorites in Batman: The Animated Series. It will be great to see him brought to life once again, even if it is a younger version of the character.
