The Story for STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE Won't Unfold How You Think It Will

There's still so much that we don't know about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but it sure does look like it's going to be an incredible film! What we do know is that a young woman named Jyn (Felicity Jones) is recruited by the Rebel Alliance to help plan and execute a heist to retrieve the plans for the Empire’s Death Star, which is under construction in this film. She helps gather together a team badasses to help complete the mission.

We all got a taste of what's in store for us with the last trailer that was released, which completely blew me away. A lot of fans have speculated and talked about how the story will play out, but according to director Gareth Edwards, the story isn't going to unfold how you think. During an interview with USA Today he explained:

“Events take place that just shatter her life and send her off to basically be raised as a soldier in the midst of a war. She ends up not the person she was supposed to be. Even though we’re not telling the story of Luke Skywalker, it was important to me that we capture the same themes and emotion. But the film doesn’t unfold how you think. It’s not the same path as Star Wars.”

We've got the basic gist of the plot but it sounds like the way the plot unfolds will take audiences on a wild ride full of fun surprising twists and turns. There are obviously a lot more layers to the story that we aren't seeing in the trailers, which is great! I love a good Star Wars movie surprise! In a separate interview with EW, the director discussed the film's ending:

“The thing every [filmmaker] typically struggles with is ‘How does it end?’ But we knew how our film was going to end. Our problem became ‘How do we reverse engineer from that and know where to start?’ You’ve got a finite number of options and you go through them all like a puzzle to find the one that’s going to lead to the strongest result.”

One of the most important of that pieces is obviously Darth Vader, and it's so freakin' cool that we'll get to see him in action again! Rogue One hits theaters on December 16th, and just like the rest of you... I can't wait!
