THE WALKING DEAD: Why I Think SPOILER Is Going To Die Next

I sighed when I saw the preview for this week's The Walking Dead. SOME WILL FALL...yeah no s****. How many times has this show added a cast of 30 people to the survivors right before a conflict? 9/10 it's always the extras, or minor characters you only saw for a couple episodes. This show (especially in the past two seasons) is great at building up your expectations and then leaving you with a "meh" afterwards. HOWEVER! I do think there will be a big kill this mid-season finale! Who will it be though?

Hershel is my pick for the survivor to die this week. I say this because it's been a long while since any of the main cast has been killed off, and everything just seems too perfect for it not to happen. First, in the clip from the next episode we see Hershel in the yard amongst the fighting...when has that happened at all this season? He's spent the last three episodes inside the prison tending to the sick. There's really no reason for him to be out there unless it's relevant to the plot. Second, we have this screenshot from the clip.

Now, the Governor has been known to take prisoners before, but this is an all out assault. There's no base camp to hold him, and this all seems like a spur of the moment attack. Let's also remember that Hershel was spotted right next to Michonne, and given the type of guy that he is, it's not too far fetched to see Hershel stalling the Governor long enough to let her get away and becoming a casualty in the process.

Now this is all well and good, but to be honest it wasn't until rewatching a key scene in last week's episode that I put the final nail in the veterinarian's coffin. The woman who is with the Governor (I can't remember her name) mentions that she is the only "nurse" available for the camp. Hmmm...which would be a better story line? Hershel and this new nurse working together to save lives after the Governor takes the prison? Or would it be Maggie dealing with the struggle of trusting a woman to save her lover (Glenn) when her group was also responsible for her father's death?

Of course, all of this is pure speculation, but I would like to think the writers of the show learned their lesson from Season 3's finale. You can't tease death and then kill off all the extras. It pisses people off and leaves a sour taste in their mouths. As much as I hate to see Hershel go, I think his number is up this week on The Walking Dead.
