THE X-FILES Officially Returns in January
We now live in a world in which the definition of the word "cancelled" has changed when it comes to television shows. What once meant "gone forever" now seems to mean "temporarily shut down until an overwhelming sense of nostalgia resurrects it in a new form." Case in point: The X-Files continuation, which now has an official return date. The six-episode limited series run will air on FOX starting on January 24th, 2016, so go ahead and set your DVRs now. Its two-night premiere will follow the NFC Championship game, and its regular time slot will be on Monday nights at 8pm.
The series, which will reportedly be more like a six-hour movie, has fans incredibly excited to see the adventures of Mulder and Scully in the modern day. If the show gets the ratings FOX execs are hoping for, we may end up seeing more than just those six episodes. If not, then it will probably come and go as quickly as 24: Live Another Day, and it'll end up as nothing more than a weird footnote in the show's history. Here's hoping they update the opening title credits with this awesome fan-made version from a couple of months ago.
