There's Talk at HBO of a GAME OF THRONES Movie
It looks like there's a chance that a Game of Thrones movie could actually happen. George R.R. Martin first brought up the possibility in an interview in which he said,
"It all depends on how long the main series runs. Do we run for seven years? Do we run for eight? Do we run for 10? The books get bigger and bigger (in scope). It might need a feature to tie things up, something with a feature budget, like $100 million for two hours. Those dragons get real big, you know."
It looks like talks have actually been going on since that interview. Actor Charles Dance, who plays Tywin Lannister in the HBO series, recently did an interview with The Daily Beast in which he said,
There's talk of eventually trying to do a feature film, but I don't know which of the storylines. There's so much to cram into a film.
He doesn't go into any details, but when Martin talked about the potential film he said one of the possibilities could be based on Tales of Dunk and Egg, which is a series of three prequel stories that Martin wrote. They revolve around a group of characters that includes Ser Duncan the Tall, who lived in the the fantasy world of Westeros 90 years before the events depicted in A Song of Ice and Fire.
"They could be the basis for [a film]," Martin explained. "I have written these three stories, and I have about a dozen more."
It would be amazing if HBO actually made a full on, big budget Game of Thrones feature film. I'm a huge fan of the series, and I'd love to see that happen.
