Tom Hardy Reportedly Left SUICIDE SQUAD Because of the Script
Looks like someone might have an ego issue. Yesterday we reported that Tom Hardy had dropped out of David Ayer's Suicide Squad due to scheduling conflicts. Apparently that's not the real reason he left. According to Latino-Review, the real reason why he dropped out was because he didn't like the final script of the film.
So what is it that he may have not liked about the script? Apparently Deadshot and The Joker were given more screen time than some of the other villains in the story like Rick Flagg, which is the character Hardy was supposed to play. In the end, does it really matter as long as the story is good? The filmmakers have to do what is right for the story, and if that means cutting back on certain characters, then so be it.
This movie has an ensemble cast and features a lot of different main characters. Ayer's last film, Fury, was like that, and he did a great job balancing all of those characters. I imagine he'll be able to do the same thing with Suicide Squad. I like Hardy as an actor, but maybe he isn't one of those guys that is willing to sacrifice for the rest of the team to help make a better film.
I should point out, though, that all of the actors who signed on to the project did so without reading a script. The script didn't come until after the fact, so maybe there was a legitimate reason as to why he left, but I hope it's not because his character didn't have enough screen time. That would be a shame.
Jake Gyllenhaal has been the actor rumored to replace Hardy. If he gets the part, he will join Will Smith (Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jared Leto (The Joker), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), and Cara Delevigne (Enchantress).
The movie will be released on August 5th, 2016.
