Tom Holland is The New SPIDER-MAN, and Jon Watts Will Direct Solo Film
Marvel and Sony have finally decided on the young actor who will play Spider-Man in the MCU. According to Variety, they've cast Tom Holland in the heroic role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man. He beat out the likes of Asa Butterfield (Ender's Game), Charlie Plummer (Boardwalk Empire), and Matthew Lintz (Kill the Messenger).
Holland wasn't my top choice, but I'm sure he'll be great in the role. He hasn't done much in the past, but this role is definitely going to take his career to a whole new level. The only thing that I've seen him in was a film called The Impossible, and he did a solid job in that.
The actor will make his big debut in the MCU in Captain America: Civil War (though no mention of that appearance was made in the press release or Variety report, so I think we're still waiting on confirmation before we can consider that 100% official). That will be followed by a solo film which will be directed by Jon Watts. Watts is the director behind a couple small independent films that include Clown and Cop Car, which was screening at Sundance earlier this year. The Spider-Man solo film will be released on July 28th, 2017. After that, Holland will be appearing in various Marvel films as well as additional solo projects.
Hopefully Marvel was able to help Sony figure out all of their Spider-Man issues, because this Spider-Man is going to be around for awhile. What do you all think about Holland in the role of the web-slinger?
