Top 10 Creepiest Characters in Film
Just for the hell of it, I came up with a list of 10 movie characters who I think are the most creepy characters ever created in film. The list is in no particular order, but go through it and tell me what you think. Also let us know if there are there any characters that you think should be added to it!
Julian Beck as Kane (Poltergeist II)
I was actually just watching Poltergeist II and it was seeing this character that actually gave me the idea of putting together this list. This guy is just scary as hell! The guy had a unique gift of scaring the shit out of people while walking down the street.
Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka (Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory)
You just can't deny that Willy Wonka is scary as hell in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. As much as I love this character, he has the look of a serial killer. The most frightening scene in the movie is when Wonka is on his boat, taking the guests through that crazy tunnel as he lets out a blood curdling scream.
Bette Davis as Baby Jane Hudson (What Ever happened to Baby Jane?)
I remember after watching this movie as a kid I had nightmares of the aging child star Baby Jane Hudson walking into my room wanting to kill me. She is the essence of creepy - with that spackled white makeup, overdrawn mouth, baby doll ringlets and even baby doll clothes. On top of all that, she was just an insane bitch. She served her sister a pet bird for lunch! The character was divinely mad.
Tim Curry as Pennywise (It)
If there's a clown that needs to be on the list it's Pennywise; the scariest most hauntingly deadly clown ever! Even when he's not sporting the mouth of razor sharp teeth he just has all of the elements to scare the hell out of you. And what the hell is up with kids talking to freakin' clowns in the sewer?! The children should freakin' know better! Why aren't they scared?! Clowns in genral are scary!
Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates (Psycho)
Norman Bates could have easily been just some regular guy with no problems, and that's what makes him so scary. He doesn't look threatening at all, but underneath his charming, shy, innocent look is a violent cross-dressing serial killer, who snaps when mother calls. This helped to create one of the most disturbing, unnerving and unforgettable killers in movie history.
Robert Helpmann as The Child Catcher (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang)
I don't think any character is more frightening than The Child Catcher. The guy prances around with his colourful horse-and-cart, he rings his bell and offers children all kinds of sweets and goodies to lure them into a cage and kidnapping them for his own evil deeds. And there's never been a more disturbing word than kiddywinkies. It makes me shudder.
Harvey Stephens as Damien (The Omen)
The spawn of the Devil. Before this kid even hits puberty he's embraced the evil within and is ready to kill anyone that gets in his way, even his parents. He's got those cold black eyes and out of all the creepy kid actors, he wins.
Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter (The Silence of the Lambs)
I know it's an obvious choice, but what would a list of creepy film characters be without him? He's terrifyingly charming.
John Franklin as Issac (Children of the Corn)
What can I say? There's nothing more frightening than an insane, overly religious kid, who is constantly quoting hell fire and damnation scriptures to his cult of kids who killed their parents and any other adult that rolls into town. This kid was seriously jacked up.
Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance (The Shining)
This is one of my favorite movie characters of all time, and from start to finish this character scared the hell out of me. I have no idea what it must have been like for Danny Torrence to have this guy as a dad, I just can't imagine him being a dad to anyone.
