Trailer for DONNIE DARKO's 15th Anniversary 4K Restoration Release

Donnie Darko is a favorite film of mine. Director Richard Kelly did something absolutely incredible with this film, everything from the insanely twisted story, the beautiful cinematography, and Jake Gyllenhaal’s awesomely haunting performance.

In celebration of the 15th anniversary of the film, Arrow Films has done a 4k restoration of both the theatrical edition and the director’s cut. They will be screening these restored films in London next month, and they will include Q&A's with Kelly.

This mind-bending cult classic gets a loving restoration. October, 1988. In the middle of the night, a man in a monstrous rabbit suit appears to Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal), a troubled teenager living with his family in suburban Virginia, to tell him that the world will end in 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes and 12 seconds. And so, a cult movie is born. As Donnie’s grip on reality weakens, we’re drawn into the darkness that lurks underneath the surface of suburbia. Underappreciated upon its initial release in 2001, Richard Kelly’s mind-bending film gets the 4K restoration treatment and is ripe for rediscovery on the big screen.

There's no word on when the restoration copies of the film will be available in the United States, but I assume it will eventually get a date. While we wait, you can watch a trailer for the the Donnie Darko restoration below.
