TRAINING DAY TV Series in Development From Director Antoine Fuqua

Antoine Fuqua's Training Day is nearly 15 years old, and while it may be a little too harsh to say it's completely fallen out of the public consciousness, it's not exactly a movie people are still fondly discussing or quoting in 2015. But it's about cops, and TV executives love cop shows, so of course Warner Bros. is now developing a small screen adaptation of the movie.

Deadline reports that Fuqua is teaming with producer Jerry Bruckheimer on the show, which is apparently earning interest from the four main networks. Will Beall (Gangster Squad) is working on the script. (Uh oh.) The pilot, which Fuqua would direct, is reportedly set in Los Angeles in 2015, and follows the relationship of a young rookie and an older corrupt cop in the L.A.P.D. While Ethan Hawke played the rookie and Denzel Washington won an Oscar for his portrayal of the corrupt cop in the film, Deadline claims that the show may reverse the roles: here, the rookie may be played by a black guy and the corrupt vet would be white.

Frankly, I'm surprised every single cop movie from this century hasn't already been adapted into a TV show, since networks can't seem to get enough of the concept, no matter how tired it is after all these years. Depending on casting, would you be interested in watching a Training Day series? The only way I might tune in is if they got someone like Nick Offerman to play the older corrupt cop; even then, if it's on one of the major networks, it would still be likely to suck.
