Trippy DOCTOR STRANGE Multiverse Scene Teased, Film Will Include “Crazy Sh*t”

Yesterday, we got our first official look at Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange in Marvel’s upcoming movie, and he looked exactly as I hoped he would! They really stayed true to the comic to bring this mystical character to life on the big screen, and now that I’ve gotten a look at him, I can’t wait to see him in action!

During a recent interview with EW, director Scott Derrickson, producer Kevin Feige, and Cumberbatch talked about the film and teased what we'll see in it. Talking about creating the awesome visuals of the comic for the movie, the director said:

“I was always interested in the extreme mind-bending visuals of the comics. I had very ambitious for the visuals, which were rooted in the comics, that movies haven’t done yet. And a lot of that goes back to the Ditko artwork and all that ’60s craziness you see in the comics.”

That’s so awesome to hear. We’ve seen some of the concept art that gives us an idea of what these visuals will look like, like the image above. It’s fantastic that the talented people who are making this movie are doing everything they can to bring what Steve Ditko and Stan Lee created to life. The imagery Ditko came up with for this character is freakin’ beautiful. Feige added:

“When this comic appeared in the early ’60s, it really informed, in a way that is pretty amazing, a lot of the psychedelic ’60s as we know it. Stan Lee and, in particular, Steve Ditko, had an amazing psychedelic style. I don’t know that they were doing anything weird in the bullpen in Marvel, but certainly the stuff they were doing inspired all those people who were doing mind-expansion experiments at the time. So, that’s inherent to the property. And that’s our mission statement for the visual effects on this movie.”

Feige went on to describe a sequence in the film that will highlight some of this beautiful images they’re creating. It involves Strange’s introduction to Tilda Swinton’s the Ancient One. Strange finds himself being introduced to several alternative dimensions which make up Marvel’s "multiverse."

“[The] sequence culminates in what we, behind-the-scenes, refer to as the ‘Magical Mystery Tour,’ which literally takes him in a shocking and very fast way through the multiverse. The images can be just as trippy — for lack of a better term — as those Ditko images were in the past. So, that, we hope, is going to set this movie apart from any of the other movies. And, from any other movie.”

Cumberbatch then added:

“There’s going to be crazy s–t going on.”

Bring on the crazy shit! I’m ready to see some of that in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! We’ll get to see the awesomeness of the Sorcerer Supreme when the movie opens up on November 4th, 2016! To catch up on all out previous Doctor Strange news, click here.
