Video Tribute to '80s Teen Movies

Videos John Hughes by Ben Pearson

This week marked the 30th anniversary of John Hughes' teen classic The Breakfast Club, so YouTuber Robert Jones took the opportunity to create a video tribute to the teen films of the 1980s to celebrate. The '80s really were the best decade for teen films, because it was a time when studios largely weren't as risk-averse as they are now and they felt like they could allow young actors to carry entire movies on their shoulders without always having to rely on ridiculously over-the-top premises. Also, while there were definitely a fair amount of sequels (the late 70s ushered in the era of the blockbuster, after all), not every movie was eyed as a potential franchise, and young adult novels weren't being written for the sole purpose of being source material for an eventual movie.
