Vin Diesel Talks About FURIOUS 8 Being Set in New York

Earlier this year, Vin Diesel revealed that Furious 8 would be set in New York, which is a really interesting setting for this franchise. While talking to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Diesel went on to reveal that the first movie in the franchise was actually inspired by the street racers of New York. When asked about the setting for the next film, Diesel exclaimed:

“New York, baby! Something that people don’t know is the first movie came from a Vibe article that was about street racers in New York. The director and producer at the time reset the whole movie in LA, but the Vibe article that the whole franchise was started from actually originated in New York. So we’re finally BRINGING IT BACK HOME, BABY!”

Having been to New York on several occasions, I have no idea where these street racers will be driving fast and furious. Those roads are packed and narrow, so it's going to make racing through them very interesting. New York is a fun playground to play in, and I'm sure they've got some visually stunning action scenes planned that are going to be really fun for fans to watch. New York will make a great setting for the next installment of the franchise.

Jason Statham, Dwayne Johnson, and Kurt Russell are all expected to return, along with franchise regulars Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky, and maybe even Lucas Black.

F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton, The Italian Job) is set to direct the movie, and it is scheduled to be released on April 14th, 2017. Furious 8 is the start of a new trilogy that will conclude the franchise.
