WARCRAFT Director and Stars Talk About Why Orcs Deserve Love As Well

Traditionally, orcs are portrayed as the bad guys. They are the embodiment of Evil in nearly every fiction book or film. They are gruesome, awful and repulsive. Orcs are the grotesque characters in fiction. Non-traditionally, though, and in very rare circumstances, these creatures can appear to deserve love too. And this is what we are told to expect from the upcoming Warcraft film.

Robert Kazinsky, who stars as the Orc warrior Orgrim, tells Yahoo:

“What we’ve strived to make here is not a Warcraft movie, but a great war movie. And in every war, on every side, there are good guys and there are bad guys […] That’s kind of the beauty of it. That’s what’s different. We are not telling of good vs. evil vs. the story. The enemy here, and the true evil, is war.”

An exception to the rule, Warcraft depicts two sympathetic sides of the story and both sides have their heroes. Yes — not monsters, but heroes that the audience can equally relate to. There is subtle tenderness and a sort of kindness on display in the trailer which lead us to believe that not every cinematic production has to be about good characters vs. bad ones. Sometimes there’s really more to it than meets the eye: it's called having depth and originality.
