WARCRAFT Panel Reaction - Comic-Con 2015

During the Legendary Pictures panel at Comic-Con, director Duncan Jones came out to show off his new Warcraft film, and it ended up being one of the greatest highlights of the geek event.

When the cast of the film were being introduced on the stage, each one walked out to some spectacular footage of the characters that they play in the movie, and the fans were going crazy for it! Seeing these characters brought to life on the big screen was amazing! The cast that was brought on stage included Ben Foster, Paula Patton, Dominic Cooper, Travis Fimmel, Daniel Wu, Clancy Brown, Ben Schnetzer, and Toby Kebbell.

On top of that, Jones screened a very lengthy clip that blew the socks off the fans in Hall H. I've never really seen anything like this before. This trailer gives us our best glimpse yet what the movie will look like and offers us a bit of information about the story it will tell.

Jones has explained in the past that the story for the film would revolve around the orcs' coming into the world of Azeroth, which is a place of humans, elves, taurens, and other creatures.

The footage basically starts off with clips of the orcs and their lives in a desolate wasteland that is dying. They need to find a new place to live so they can survive. This leads to them making their way through the dark portal into the world of Azeroth thanks to the help of warlock Gul'dan with his death magic. Of course, The Alliance discovers them, thinks the Orc are dangerous, and they go to war! The audience was then treated to a ton of visually stunning battles sequences between these two factions.

Seriously, the footage that we saw is unlike anything I have ever seen before. It is the true definition of "epic." I haven't been moved by film footage like this since I saw The Lord of the Rings for the first time. Warcraft takes all of that CGI filmmaking to a whole new level. It looks like they will take fantasy films to a whole new realm with Warcraft.

When talking about the film, Jones had this to say:

"From the moment I first talked to Blizzard, the plan was to start our film with the first time orcs met humans. First contact! I think that for a world with so much newness to explain, this was a wise choice, especially when so many people in our audience may not know anything about Warcraft...
It was important that some of our characters would be seeing the world fresh as well, and that the audience could see the situation through their eyes. A Warcraft film should not be about a good race of humans battling an evil race of orcs. Warcraft should be about heroes on both sides trying to avoid a conflict, when villains leave them no choice.”

He added:

"We wanted to make a film that everyone would be interested in, not just Warcraft fans.”

I think that he will accomplish just that. I was hearing Warcraft gamers and non-Warcraft gamers alike praising the footage that they saw, and this has potential to be an incredibly huge success. I've been rooting for the film since it was first announced, and I'm going to continue to do so!

Warcraft hits theaters on June 10th, 2016!
