Warner Bros. Developing a DANTE'S INFERNO Film Franchise
Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. is going to be bringing Dante’s Inferno to the big screen. The studio purchased the original feature film pitch for the project from screenwriter Dwain Worrell, who heasn't really done much.
According to the report, "the project has the studio excited by its scale and franchise potential." As most of you already know, the film will be based on the "epic love story that is at the core of Dante’s Inferno, and...follows Dante as he descends through the nine circles of hell to save the woman he loves.
This is an awesome opportunity for a rookie screenwriter. Bringing one of the world’s most revered works of literature to the big screen cannot be an easy thing and could make his career. I have fumbled my way through The Divine Comedy, so it will be interesting to see his take on the epic journey of Dante and Virgil.
With the film being called Dante’s Inferno, I wonder if he is just doing the first part of the three part poem. Or is he encompassing the whole story under one title? We will see.
If this actually comes to life, who do you think has chops to direct a trip into hell? I think Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity) would be a perfect fit. As details come out on this project, we will let you know.
