At Comic-Con this past weekend, director Joe Wright and actors Levi Miller, Garrett Hedlund, and Hugh Jackman were on hand for Warner Bros.’ panel for Pan. We filmed the short presentation for Wright’s visually spectacular reframing of J.M. Barrie’s classic tale that tells the origin of Peter Pan (Miller), a young orphan who teams up with a pre-hook James Hook (Hedlund) to defeat the ruthless pirate Blackbeard (Jackman).
Even though P.J. Hogan’s 2003 Peter Pan has held up remarkably well over the last decade, I don’t mind taking another journey to Neverland with Wright at the helm. The director’s credits include such beautifully filmed and brilliantly choreographed movies as Atonement and Hanna.
During the panel, Wright talked about his new take on the classic tale and the actors opened up about their characters and praised the practical sets that were built for the film. Warner Bros. also debuted an extended trailer (yet to be released) that was very similar to the second full trailer we posted last month, but it included more revealing scenes and extra narration from Jackman’s Blackbeard and Rooney Mara’s Tiger Lily. The studio will likely release that and the clip they showed of Blackbeard’s introduction in the movie the closer we get to its October 9th release date.
