Watch Stan Lee and Kevin Smith Discuss Marvel Comics History
The Hammer Museum recently hosted an event in honor of the new Taschen book 75 Years of Marvel: From the Golden Age to the Silver Screen. During the event, comic book legends Stan Lee and Roy Thomas talked with filmmaker Kevin Smith about the history of Marvel Comics. It's really great to listen to these guys talk about comic books and the superheroes that we all love. One of the more interesting parts of the interview, though, is when Lee talked about a multi-studio Marvel superhero crossover film:
"It’s something that Marvel is very concerned about. It’s very difficult to bring ‘em all together because these characters are so successful and make so much money that the studios that have the rights don’t want to let them go. So that’s something that all the lawyers and all the production companies have to work out. Whether they get it worked out, I don’t know."
We know now that Marvel actually did try with Sony Pictures to bring back Spider-Man, but things didn't pan out the way Marvel had hoped. Which means we'll be getting more of what Sony has been giving us with the character. Unfortunately, even though Marvel is trying, it doesn't seem like the other studio is going to budge.
This is still a good conversation to watch, though, so check it out!
