What to Do at San Diego Comic-Con Without a Pass - Day 1
Are you in the San Diego Gaslamp District during Comic-Con? Are you looking longingly at the San Diego Convention Center imagining all the amazing panels filled with celebrities and fellow geeks? Did you not have the foresight to buy a ticket to the most amazing Con that you'll never be apart of because you're so poor?!? Well, turn around, because for some reason you missed all the cool stuff you could be doing, for FREE!
That's right, not everything during Comic-Con costs money, only time. If you have an afternoon, a day or the weekend, you too could be having a blast without breaking the bank.
Now on the surface, a lot of these outdoor events seem straightforward. Like the Heroes Reborn Experience. If there is no line, I say go for it. You'll find a fun(ish) little Kinect game waiting for you. Plus you get a digitally augmented picture taken of yourself like the picture of me above.
If there is a line and you're not a fan of Heroes, don't bother. If you are, wait until some volunteers come around and ask if you'd like to skip the line and go into the museum. Say yes, and you'll be swept up to the front and find a small but excellent exhibit of some of the props from the show. Like Claire's cheerleader uniform and Hiro's sword. Plus, you still get the picture.
So, what did I learn from waiting three hours in the hot sun for a Kinect game? Ask questions. Find out what you're getting yourself into by asking the people exiting the booths. I plan to do just that later today when I go check out some of the other free events. I hear The Nerdist, LEGO, and NerdHQ have some fun with their fans. I'll be checking them out this week. If you have any suggestions or tips, I'd love to hear them in the comments below.
