When Asked About a SPIDER-MAN 4 With Sam Raimi, Kirsten Dunst Says, "I Don't Think We Need That"

It’s long been rumored and hope for by fans that director Sam Raimi will return to his Spider-Man franchise and make another film starring Tobey Maguire as the web-crawler. This was renewed after Maguire’s Peter Parker returned to the big screen in Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, where fans got to see him and some of his allies and enemies back in action, but not everyone is chomping at the bit to make this happen.

In a recent interview, Kirsten Dunst, who played Mary Jane Watson in Raimi’s trilogy, was skeptical about whether a film this much later would even work. Dunst sat down with ComicBook to promote her recently released buzzed-about film Civil War, and she was asked what she thought about a Spider-Man 4. She responded:

"I don’t think we need that. I don’t know. It was so long ago. I just don’t know how they would, what the story would be. I don’t know. It seems like … I don’t know! It would really depend on the script, and also, I don’t know, you’re really putting yourself out there in a way that … let’s maybe leave things when they were good. You know what I mean?"

Dunst recently revealed that the reason she didn't appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home was because she wasn't asked to reprise her role. However, she would have, if asked.

While this movie may or may not ever get made, one other rumor that may end up panning out is that Tobey Maguire may end up returning to reprise his No Way Home storyline in the upcoming Avengers films, or Marvel’s Spider-Man movie. Could Dunst return for one of those? Her Mary Jane was mentioned in No Way Home, so I could see it happening. Where would you like to see her character return?
