Who Should Direct CAPTAIN MARVEL? Marvel Narrows Their Search Down to 3 Choices

Marvel Studios is closing in on hiring a director to helm Brie Larson in Captain Marvel. According to THR, the studio has narrowed it down to three directors, who are Niki Caro, Lesli Linka Glatter, and Lorene Scafaria.

Niki Caro has been mentioned as a possibility before. She is the director of the wonderfully made 2002 film Whale Rider. She went on to direct Charlize Theron in a film called North Country; Kevin Costner in McFarland, USA; and Jessica Chastain in The Zookeeper’s Wife. Caro is a solid storyteller who has made some fantastic films.

Lesli Linka Glatter comes from the TV side of entertainment. She has directed episodes of several hit cable series that include Homeland, Ray Donovan, The Newsroom, True Blood, Mad Men, ER, and The West Wing. Since TV series kind of have their own style, it’s hard to tell what she could bring to the table for Captain Marvel.

Lorene Scafaria broke into the industry with the script for Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist with Micheal Cera and Kat Dennings. That was a fun quirky coming-of-age teenage movie that led her to her first directing gig for a film called Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, which starred Steve Carell and Keira Knightley. She also wrote and directed Rose Byrne and Susan Sarandon in the film The Meddler. All of the films she’s worked on have a quirky and witty vibe to them.

Out of those three choices, I’d have to say that my favorite is Caro. Judging from the films that she’s made, I think she could bring something special to Captain Marvel in the way she tells her stories and develops her characters.

If you don’t like any of the directors on the list, who would you like to see take on the film? As you know, Marvel wants a female director to tackle it. Who would you choose?
