Will Smith and Margot Robbie Talk SUICIDE SQUAD, David Ayer's Secrecy
Will Smith and Margot Robbie are currently making the press rounds for their upcoming film Focus. The two talents will be teaming up again soon for director David Ayer's Suicide Squad, which I'm really looking forward to. Smith will be taking on the role of Deadshot in the movie, and Robbie will be taking on the the role of Harley Quinn, which she is perfect for.
During an interview with Flicks and the City the two actors talk about Suicide Squad, how their relationship in that film will be different from their characters in Focus, and Ayer's secrecy surrounding the project.
They are both obviously looking forward to making the film and Smith says, "I'm looking forward to it too, but I don't know what it's going to be character-wise." Margot added, "We don't know what our characters' relationship is really gonna be [because] it's ever-changing."
Talking about how Ayer works on his films, Smith says, "It's really cool, the way that David Ayer works. It's all images, all ideas, and he holds the screenplay [pretty close] and he just keeps sending you things about your character. He just wants you to be prepared for anything."
They go on to say that one thing they do know is that Harley Quinn and Deadshot will be allies in the story, but they also admitted that they don't know what exactly the movie is going to be like yet. Robbie says, "We're not being secretive, we just actually don't know," and Smith added that "[Ayer] only sends your character's stuff so you don't know what's going on with the other characters; I think he wants it to come alive on set."
That definitely sounds like an interesting way of making a movie. You would think the actors would want to know what exactly they are getting themselves into. Smith then spoke about why he took on the role.
"I guess I like the concept of dubious morals. I always liked to play in that area [...]. With Suicide Squad, we just started on that. I think I haven't explored the psychology enough of Deadshot, somebody who could take money to kill people; how he justifies that for himself. So, I still have a little bit of work to do on that, but in my life in general and in my career, those are the type of roles that I'm pushing more towards; those kinds of questions."
Out of all the DC comic book movies being made, this is the one I'm most excited about. It's full of great characters and has the potential to be an incredible film, especially with the talent involved in bringing it to life. The movie will be released on August 5th, 2016.
