Will Three New Live Action STAR WARS TV Series Head to Netflix?
A few months back, we heard a rumor that Disney and Lucasfilm were considering (yet again) creating a live action TV series set in the Star Wars universe. That story has popped up multiple times over the past decade, but the most recent bit of info seemed to suggest that now that the Star Wars films are ramping back up, the studio would want to utilize the same film sets for the TV show in order to save on production costs.
Now Cinelinx is reporting that they've heard from multiple sources that Disney wants to continue its relationship with Netflix with its Star Wars shows. Yes, apparently there are as many as "potentially three different live action shows" in the works, and since Disney already has an aggressive plan in place with the streaming service for its Marvel properties, they're apparently looking at Netflix instead of ABC as a future home for those shows.
I don't know anything about Cinelinx, so we'll call this a rumor until we hear something more concrete. Even if it turns out to be completely fabricated, it sounds like a smart plan for the studio. We already know Disney is going to try to recreate the success of the Marvel formula with Star Wars properties, so following the Netflix model makes a lot of sense. They wouldn't be tied down with network restrictions like they would be on ABC. If they were ever going to get back in the live action game with Star Wars, now seems like a good time to be exploring that option. We'll report back when we hear more solid details, but in the meantime, what do you think? Is Netflix the right fit for a live action Star Wars show (or shows)?
