WOLVERINE 3 Finds Villain in NARCOS Star Boyd Holbrook
The still-untitled third Wolverine solo movie (let's just call it Wolverine 3 for now) has found its main villain. Deadline reports that Boyd Holbrook, who plays DEA agent Steve Murphy in the Netflix series Narcos, will play "a relentless, calculating and intense head of security for a global enterprise" who goes up against Hugh Jackman's gruff hero. Good luck with that, bub.
If you haven't seen Narcos, you may recognize Holbrook from his roles in Milk, Gone Girl, A Walk Among the Tombstones, or Run All Night. The description of his character for this movie is pretty vague, so I can't even fathom a guess as to which Marvel character he might be playing here. 20th Century Fox is obviously limited in regards to which characters they have the rights to, so maybe they're just making up an entirely new villain for Holbrook to play since they won't be able to create a perfect adaptation of the Old Man Logan comic anyway. Patrick Stewart is back on board as Professor X, Liev Schreiber may return as Sabretooth, and the film will reportedly be rated R, so we expect Jackman to finally unleash the berserker rage on screen.
Production on Wolverine 3 starts in May, and the film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 3, 2017. That seems like a fairly quick turnaround for a film that I assume will need a considerable amount of VFX work done, but hopefully director James Mangold can make it work.
