Would You Want Charlize Theron To Play CAPTAIN MARVEL?
There's a rumor that hit the internet earlier this week that said if Marvel cast Charlize Theron in the title role of Captain Marvel, it would entice Angelina Jolie to sign on to direct it. Apparently Jolie and Theron have become very close friends over the years, and this would be an opportunity for them to work together. Marvel has been courting Jolie to direct the film for a while, and if this is really what they want, maybe the studio should do it. The report comes from Yahoo! who says:
"Marvel has been courting Angie to direct the project and Charlize is a clear fan favourite for the starring role. If Charlize were to get the part, Angie would almost certainly sign on to work with her new pal."
Who knows if any of this is true, or if Marvel will actually cast Theron to get Jolie to direct, but after seeing the actress kick ass in Mad Max: Fury Road, I would love to see her take on the role of Carol Danvers a.k.a. Captain Marvel! She not only has the look and the amazing acting talent, but she also has the badassery factor in her favor. I don't think many actresses could pull off what she did in Fury Road.
Out of all the actresses I've heard rumored for the role, such as Katee Sackhoff, Emily Blunt, and Jessica Chastain, Theron is my favorite. We even posted a list several months ago of eight actresses that our Editor Free would like to see in the role. Some of those included Natalie Dormer, Yvonne Strahovski, and Anna Torv. Theron wasn't on the list, but she's now at the top of mine.
Maybe I'm just still high from seeing her in Fury Road, but now it's hard for me to imagine anyone else in the role of Captain Marvel. She just seems to fit the character perfectly. Here's a brief description of the character from ComicVine:
After encountering the Kree hero Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers was accidentally subjected to otherworldly radiation that transformed her into a superhuman warrior. Calling herself Ms. Marvel, she established herself as one of Marvel's most powerful and prominent heroes, both as a solo heroine and as a member of the Avengers. She has now adopted the mantle of Captain Marvel for herself.
