Writer of ARCHER Says New Season Is Not About Spies

TV Archer by Mick Joest

In a surprising interview with UPROXX, Archer executive producer Matt Thompson says this season will have very little to do with spies and espionage, and a lot to do with selling cocaine. Yes, we are serious, but the reasoning is more sound than you initially think.

There is a big radical departure this season on Archer and that came about frankly because Adam [Reed] got bored. He is the sole writer of the show and he felt like he was spinning his wheels at some point ... And so you have a show that is successful and/or becoming more successful and we decided to change everything because we were bored and because we just want to make the show that makes us interested and happy in the end.

The show has always been popular but has been increasing ratings more and more as the seasons go on. This puts FX in a bind to say no to one of its more popular shows after moving several series over to FXX. Part of me wants to believe this is just a ploy to get me to tune in and see what's going on, the other half doesn't care and will watch anyway come January 13th!
