Zack Snyder Says If You Read the Comics You Know He Didn't Change Superman

The director of Man of Steel and the upcoming Batman v Superman is on the offensive after years of criticism from fans. Comicbook is reporting that Zack Snyder shot back in the Hall of Justice podcast saying that fans who read comics know that Superman hasn't changed...

“People are always like, ‘You changed Superman’...If you’re a comic book fan, you know that I didn’t change Superman. If you know the true canon, you know that I didn’t change Superman. If you’re a fan of the old movies, yeah I changed him a bit. That's the difference. I'm a bit of a comic book fan and I always default to the true canon. Not the cinematic canon that sort of, that in my opinion, plays fast and loose with the rules. And so, I feel like I tried to create a Superman that would set a tone for the world.”

That's an incredibly bold statement to make in the face of comic book fans. Snyder did more than nix the red underwear. He made The Man of Steel an Alaskan Crab Fisherman, had him destroy half a city, and did the exact opposite of "kneeling before Zod."

Snyder has definitely changed Superman more than a little. Not saying I disagree with it! In fact I'm in the camp that still defends the film (minus the product placement). To say, however, that "true" fans know you changed very little...well, that's just banking on a small percentage of hardcore comic fans being too small of a majority to be heard. It's just not true in my opinion.
