Common Reveals The Name of His Mysterious SUICIDE SQUAD Character

About ten months ago, actor/rapper Common was cast in David Ayer's upcoming supervillain movie Suicide Squad. But while we had a pretty good idea of which characters all of his co-stars would be playing, Common's role was a mystery to the blogosphere. Some fans speculated that he might be portraying Green Lantern, since he was cast as John Stewart in George Miller's Justice League: Mortal years ago before that project fell apart, but others thought he might be playing a villain called the Tattooed Man after he was spotted with tattoos covering his body on the set of the film.

Now, thanks to a new interview with Complex (at the 2:48 mark), we know the name of his character, but it's not one that's going to ring a bell for fans of DC Comics:

"My role is basically a character who's in business with The Joker. His name was Monster T."

"Monster T" doesn't pop up in a search of the wiki for DC Comics characters, so I guess we'll have to wait until Suicide Squad hits theaters to find out the extent of his character, whether or not Monster T is a code name for a better-known character, and how his interactions with Jared Leto's Joker will play into the story.

Suicide Squad arrives on August 5th.

Back before the days of Twitter fingers and memes, rap beef was fought on wax. When Common released his instant-classic 1994 track "I Used to Love H.E.R.," a few lyrics seemingly took a dig at the rise of gangster rap which didn't sit well with West Coast gangsta rapper Ice Cube.
